Our church membership voted in January to set our missions giving goal at 1 MILLION dollars for the year of 2010.
For the next four months, our giving is focused on the following four areas. Although we are still giving to many local, national and international organizations, these four projects will be our focus:
Haiti was a poor country even before the devastating earthquake. Now there are millions of displaced people living in extreme poverty. We are partnering with churches there to help provide food, health care and other basic needs, from packing rice and beans at our church to ship to sending teams of people to help rebuild churches and lives.
was founded by local visionary Hezekia Mwalugaja in 2002 to address the escalating proportions of orphaned children left in the wake of disease and poverty in Tanzania, currently ranked one of the poorest countries in the world. HOCET seeks to offer holistic, community-oriented care to orphans and vulnerable children through education, healthcare, spiritual and leadership development, infrastructural and economic development, vocational training, and the promotion and cultivation of the arts in both urban and rural regions of Tanzania. Two children from the Academy have come to Gainesville and attended school at Cornerstone Academy, and as a church, we are sending a misison team this summer, as well as a missionary to serve there for one year beginning in August.
God told First Assembly to "Go East", which led us to begin our first satellite site at Lincoln Middle School in fall of 2009. Our Summer Internship began outreach in Carver Gardens last June, which blossomed into Impact - a elementary school tutoring program in the Gardens, weekly kids' church and a lot of relationship building. Help us to reach our neighbors in East Gainesville.
The Tatar people group of the Ukraine are one of the most unreached people groups of the modern world. No Christians are reaching this group, and there is not currently a bible in their native language. The Tatars are Sunni Muslims who belong to the Hanafite branch, but some evidence suggests that they are hungry for the Word of God. The Assemblies of God World Missions is trying to reach these people with the love of God and salvation of Jesus Christ. For more information on these people, see http://www.joshuaproject.net/peopctry.php?rop3=102312&rog3=TU
To the Least gives you an opportunity to bless someone you may never meet in places you may never go. To the Least is committed to give gifts that really matter -- to your loved ones and the world! As the Bible says “I tell you the truth, whatever you do to the least of these brothers of mine, you do to me.”
Bless someone special by giving a life-changing gift in his or her name: a gift that truly keeps on giving.
These gifts provide lasting help to a child or family in need. Anywhere from food, to shelter, to education, there is something you can do to transform these lives.
You can personalize a beautiful card we provide with each item you donate that lets your honoree know how the gift you’ve given in his or her name will impact the world.
There is no better way to bless your loved one as you are Blessing others.
We are working with the people of Carver Gardens through small groups, tutoring, and kids church. We also are partnering with Lincoln Middle School four days a week providing help with their tutoring program.
